I gots 2 Mopars and 2 imports (Mitsubishi and Honda), but I do consciously try to buy American-made products whenever possible.
That being said, a quik story that may help illustrate why imports have such a great reputation:
Old lady used to work for Dana Corp. This particular location made constant velocity joints for both domestic and foreign auto manufacturers, to their agreed-upon specifications. She said that tolerances for domestics and GMC were waaaay easier to manage than for Toyota and Nissan.
In fact, whenever they had assembly issues that were found during QC testing, they could "hammer mechanic" the guilty CV joints/batches a bit for domestic mfgs and get away with it.
However, if the freaking paint was smudged (much less being scarred by being struck with a hammer, post-assembly) on even one batch that was being sent out to the foreign companies, they knew that the entire truckload would likely be coming back as "rejected."
They expected the work be done fast and to exacting tolerances....and that was for common CV and universal joints!
Could be why they have the long-lived, high-mileage reputations that they do...
Could also be why Dana Corp went bottoms up a few years back, lol
