I have a 97 chevy lumina and in my 1st attemp to upgrade my front stage i lost the bass. The stock speakers are 5.25,(5 1/2) no tweeter midrange looking things with baffles placed behind them.So i swapped them with some kicker comp coaxials hoping to gain sq .While i gained highs (tweeter) the kickers were very noticeably playing lower overall .They were not reproducing the midrange or midbass. This annoyed me so i returned them.

setup was run straight off eclipse deck .

Would a aftermarket midrange/midbass set do the job? I want to put a amp to my front stage to get louder but not at a loss.

Is it normal for coaxials to do as described ?

Iliterally went from some nice front stage bass to none .

I am current looking into components or putting together my own.

The problem is you were going from a high efficiency/high distortion stock driver to a low efficiency aftermarket coaxial. It is no surprise that your results were disappointing.

If midbass is what you want and you are stuck using 5.25" drivers, you are going to need to get something specifically designed for that purpose. Something like these may suit your needs: Dayton ND140-4 5-1/4" Aluminum Cone Midbass Driver 4 Ohm | Parts-Express.com, Dayton RS150-4 6" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm | Parts-Express.com, or Tang Band W5-1685 5" Underhung Midbass Driver | Parts-Express.com

Usually you don't gain much low end with aftermarket speakers unless they're amped and the doors are deadened, even then the tweets may make them seem like there isn't much bass reproduction.

double check your pos and neg speaker wiring ...it is possible you have crossed up one of the wires and have them out of phase...that will really mess up your sound and kill your midbass
I didnot do that i checked reconnected and rechecked. I even disconnected everything and let 1 door play solely . my guess was that they were to reproduce mid/highrange while the stock is a actual midrange woofer.

thanks . I'm looking to replace without loosing stock bass but gaining , i am going to be doing door pods so a larger size is no problem.
