lop- sided cuts from home depot

Thought I'd vent, and ask if anyone has had the same experience I just had earlier this afternoon.

Went to home depot to pick up my wood for my box. ( 4.5+ cu. ft tuned to 38) They (home depot) went through 2, YES, i REPEAT 2 sheets of mdf to get 6 piecies of wood that I needed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

The problem was when they measured the top portion of the wood it was right on, however *I* measured the bottom portion and it was 1/2 inch OFF!!!!! WTF?

(I always bring a tape measure cause you just never know)

It appeared the saw was cutting at an angle. I spent 1 1/2 hrs and 2 sheets of mdf to finally get FAIRLY straight cuts. (they were probably off by 1/8 1/16th not TOO BAD)

No they did'nt charge me for all the cutting or the extra mdf, I'm just wondering did/does anyone have a similar experience with a large chain store like home depot, lowes, ect?

home depot sux ur better off cutting ur mdf with a bread knife
MAAAN, he took a 20 minute job and turned it into 1 1/2 hours!!! I coulda BIT through it faster than they were cutting it...

Just think. 2 sheets of mdf!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

All my local hardware stores no longer make "project cuts". i guess theyve gotten sick of it and i agree, you shouldnt go to HD or lowes expecting them to pre cut everysingle piece of MDF for you. After waiting 25-30 minutes for measuring/cutting its kinda rediculous(waiting for HD to cut some kids plans).

I push the fukers aside and do my own cuts... seriously. It may help that I also work there though... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

what if you dont have tools to cut yourself?
X's 2... I live in an apt and I don't have a deck or a storage area, so working at home is absolutely *OUT* of the question unfortunatly.

My home depot and the other stores dont do *speciality cuts* (circle cuts, or special angle cuts) but straight cuts in all honestly SHOULD'NT be a problem.

There is another store I'm going to use for my speaker and port cut outs (all round cuts) that is actually a wood working shop.

I have to buy a drill, bit, (to counter sink the screws) and some good particle board screws. (2")

How do you, (those of us that live in apts or other "cramped housing" arrangements) go about building your boxes? Have them (lowes home depot, ect) cut your wood and then just assemble it? What should I do on some of the slightly lop-sided pieces I have?
