Long port=sound delay?

Im planning on making a new box for my W3, with a 56" long port. It'll be sub front port front. My question is whether or not there will be a delay in the sound waves coming out of the port making it sound funny, and if I should maybe make the box sub front port back to counteract this.

The box will be firing into the cabin from the trunk, btw.

Ever?
While rare, I'm sure there are some circumstances out there where 26hz would be desirable.
I won't say "never", but I can't believe any decent driver needs to be tuned that low, especially with cabin gain.

Would seem to be more like a HT tune, and my low tuned HT subs aren't great for music...

there are a few subs that need to be tuned that low. . . but i don't believe the w3 is one of those

example...my 3hp is tuned to 32. but after playing w/ it for a little, it needs to be tuned lower. next box i build is gonna be 26-28.

I'm sure there are a few that will have a nice flat response and dig deeper tuned that low, that's why I said "most" as a CYA statement. LOL

Have you modeled that sub in WinISD to see what the response looks like tuned that low? Be interesting to see how it models compared to how it actually sounds in the car...

There are quite a few reasons why somebody would want to tune that low and while it's not for everybody, it can make perfect sense, even with cabin gain. Some of the benefits include: increased low end, flatter frequency response (depending on the driver), increased transient response, lower group delay, and no need for a subsonic filter. For some people, it's not about pure output or putting up numbers, but about how it sounds.

Just checked JL's specs and it says to tune to 27 hz. So after 45's in the corners and stuff, it should be about 27 hz. My point is.. i need to know if this design will work for my 13W3. I can send someone a few bucks for a good design in paypal. PM me if you're interested.
