Lms-r vs. Lms ultra

I've narrowed it down to these two subs, have about 5000 watts to throw at them and am either gonna do 4 15" lms-r or 2 18" lms ultras, both in ported boxes tuned around 27 hz. Winds shows the lms-r setup being louder, due to more cone area I assume, but the ultra is just a beast of a sub from what I've seen.

Which do you think would get lower and louder off that power?

Either sub has the capabilities to get just as low as the other. Its all in the enclosure. Louder measured on a TL clearly the setup with more cone area.

Ya I've heard above like 50hz they start smelling, but of course TC adamantly denies this
Be careful, Kyle will be in here... lol. The new china stuff is okay, not on par with the previous stuff, but priced substantially lower... as it should be. The LMS 5400's would like tuned that high better, the 15's will have gain and compounding their efficiencies they should be louder indeed. I wasn't that impressed with the new 5400, the older one was on a different level of build quality. The new coils just aren't as abuse proof as the old ones are. Might be better finding a nice used pair of real Axis 15's. The r's are def not mid-bass capable, mms/bl and Le are all askew from their predecessors. Those coils just arent cooling properly thanks to the new 6 layer design I guess. My old LMS 4K 10 will handle 1K up to 90Hz lol.

Good post, and very true.

Oh, I had my 10"er playing cymbals the other day...not very well though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The new stuff made in China is made with the exact same parts and parts vendors we used here. We actually import 100% of the voice coils and glues in to China from the US for our production.
