Just got an email from them saying they are blowing out old stock on the hd-dvd player add on lol

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360hddvdplayer/

dd the HD DVD Player to your Xbox 360® at an incredible price—just $49.99 (ERP).* Six times higher the resolution than standard DVD. Includes King Kong HD DVD and the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote.
Supports existing HD DVD movie discs (more than 500 titles currently available worldwide) - many of which are combo discs that also include the DVD versions of the film.

Note: Studios have announced that no new titles will be released on the HD DVD or the HD DVD Combo format.

IMPORTANT: Microsoft has discontinued production of HD DVD players. From this time forward, availability of HD DVD content will be limited and subject to studio availability; for more information consumers may contact those 3rd party content providers directly. The Xbox 360 HD DVD player is covered under the standard Microsoft return policy.

I was surprised when i found out when hd dvd got trounced by blu-ray. i expected the hd to win out but guess i was wrong

For $50, it's not a bad deal for HD quality movies, particularly if you scrape up some of the movies dirt cheap. Hell, while HD-DVD was still viable, the add-on was priced pretty fairly then, too.

if they would have did this before the discontinuing it couldve turned the tide in the war...

Honestly, I'm not sure the consumer end mattered enough....

I interpreted this as HD-DVD catering to the consumer and Blu-Ray catering to the corporations and studios. HD-DVD has always been more affordable than Blu-Ray....I don't think how much consumers had to pay was a big deal because HD movies are still a bit of a fringe market.

INdeed. Just sucks there won't be any future support, and that it doesn't upconvert stock I don't believe.

the most logical investment is the ps3, which is 400 bucks
cheap blu ray is coming

ps my local walmart doesnt have either format currently instock. quite odd
thats what i thought, how does ps3 have it and cost 400. i know nothing about it, they taking a hit or is it not the best of the best?
