As I posted in a previous thread, I am experimenting with Linux distros with a old computer that was given to me.

Being that its old, iam trying to speed the old pile up a bit while surfin the net and whatnot.

Here is a description of the computer that iam working with (might help you to help me):

Intel celeron 2.7GHz

256mb ram::: don't know what the person who put this comp. together was thinking. Have one stick of 128mb PC2700 DDR333 and one stick of PC2100 PC266... motherboard ( p4mdpt sceusa) specs iam able to find says only supports PC2100 but apparently PC2700 works //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif Does that mean i can upgrade with PC2700???

20GB hdd

CD drive

Iam currently running PCLinuxOS and i like the user interface and it is moderately fast. But want to experiment a little more and figure out what all linux has to offer.

If anyone on here knows of some distros that will run good on my old p.o.s computer???

pretty sure that just means the pc2700 will run at pc2100

ive played around with a few distros but im loving ubuntu right now... tried it?

i have the ubuntu live cd, but I only started it up. didn't really play around wit it too much. I liked PCLinuxOS a little better. Might try ubuntu out some more

Iam definitely loving linux tho. I will be glad to get the old comp hooked up to the internet. I gave away my old wireless card wit my old computer, so iam gonna try to go see if I can get it back since its not being used. If not i might stop by walmart and pick me up a cheapy.

I was looking at the motherboard some more and at first i thought it was made by Machspeed, but looking at some boards on the internet it seems to be made by SCE USA... and it says that it supports 184 Pin DDR so i guess it will take pc2700. Might buy a stick of 512 to put in it since its so cheap. might even go for 1gb

I finally got the internet card up and running. Iam using the old pile right now with linux to make this post. Gotta love firefox and linux :-D

gheyness.... I believe the power supply is going out. It shut off on me twice. First time after about 10 minutes, second time after about 25 minutes.

This computer is so crappy I actually wanna fix it up and just run linux on it. I love linux, but I don't want it on my laptop. I ran the Slax Live cd for like 1.5 hours didnt shut down at all til I shut it down to put Ubuntu in
