Limited Cash- 500$

So I have a relatively old car and I'm wondering if it is even worth it to try and buy a system (I currently have all stock components) with 500$. Keep in mind that I'm not looking to have the best system, I just want something that will be significantly better than the factory set up on a 1998 Camry. If it is worth it, any suggestions on a set up?

This is excluding installation by the way.

I really don't know anything about speaker systems, but I want something (I don't know what I would need to attain it) that will sound good and have better than stock bass. I really don't know what would give me the best bang for my buck with 500$ so... any suggestions? I have no aftermarket installments as is.

Yes I'm looking for an entire system, unless people think that there are parts of the system that are unnecessary. *edit*

but do you want amps, speakers, subs, etc....

I'm thinking speakers, but, like I said, I don't really know what amps and subs would do for me. Are they optional? If anyone would like to give a quick explanation of what each thing does that'd be great, otherwise I'll be looking stuff up to come back here and give more information.

any car is worth it if you make it worth it. i got a 1994 tbird with 200k on the engine and its about to get a engine overhaul. body is almost mint along with interior only body damage is a dent in the hood from hitting a deer and the paint is wearing out but a trip to maaco for cheap with solve that. spent well over 3k on audio for the car. any car is worth it as long as u have the urge to make it worth it

As far as the sub goes...I want something simple, it doesn't have to be amazing, but I'd like a little extra oomph in my bass.

I definitely want speakers, right now I'm using stock speakers.

I don't know about an amp though...I imagine I will need one even with a cheaper audio system, but how big will I need to get on a 500-600 dollars budget?

Suggestions for speakers/sub/amp combo?

I suggest you upgrade your front stage to some decent components. The PG RSd 6.5s are VERY good for the money if they fit!

The only problem I see is doing it for $600 with new equipment. I did get a pair of JL 10w3v2s and a Rockford Fosgate P5002 from a friend of mine for $180 total out of pocket. If you look around, there are deals to be had. Getting great sound while spending $500 to $600 on new equipment is going to be TOUGH!

Then again, let me try:

Phoenix Gold RSd 6.5s = $60

Single 8" Sundown subwoofer = $60

Cerwin Vega EXL-400.4 - $150

Clarion DXZ785USB HU - $210

So there you have it, $480 out of pocket before shipping, wiring, and a box.

Changes I would recommend would be that you go with a single Memphis Power Reference 10 in a Memphis pre-fab box. That would add to the budget, but would take care of the sub and box.

As for the amp, run channels 1 & 2 on your front stage, and bridge Channels 3 & 4 for your rear stage. This setup won't turn heads from blocks away, but will sound GREAT to you with the right tuning!

Perfect. Thanks a ton man. Thanks also to all the other who have helped me in this thread. You guys are ****ing great.

look through the classifieds and install everything yourself.

I bought a very nice system for $385 + the cost of wiring.

it got me a nice kenwood hu, alpine type x components, a cadence 4 channel amp, and two 10" sundown v1 subwoofers.

i would personally save up a bit more...my first investment would a good quality deck

that alone will affect how well your setup will sound once everything is in place

look for a decent Alpine/Kenwood Excelon or higher grade Pioneer unit

next up i would invest in some mids...i would highly recommend component speakers

like alpine type r/x units the higher grade jbls work fine as well...

also look for a decent 4 chan amp the alpine mrp series are pretty reasonably priced here

in canada...im only guessing its much cheaper down in the states and you guys also got a much greater variety of choices
