You can buy a spare light/can assembly, go to the junkyard and find one from whatever car you like and and use the existing lead, re-route it to somewhere you can use it. They are not unusually very deep and a receptacle could be made out of .75" MDF. Mount new ones in the side pillars, lots of options.

have a wall in a chevy Prizm with 2 18s, ended up making a 3” roof and have no interior lights, besides just led strips what do you recommend you for lighting
A photo of the area would help me. I'm thinking more LED light, strategically place. Some come with remote controls that allow you to control brightness/color and have a flashing feature. Thanks.

Do you have any pics you can share? I would think cutting out 3" of head room would be a lot, and that LED strips are not only going to give you the best light, but the easiest thing to do. I would be wanting one with a color changing control, so it can be white when you need it to be, and mood lighting otherwise.

Are you against LEDs, or just brainstorming options?
