Light weight?

Okay..I was looking at buying a blazer, but decided against it because I don't wat a car payment right now. So..now I'm putting some subs back into my civic hatch. I did have two bottom of the line audiobahn 10s in a bandpass with a 1200watt Soundstorm amp. It was loud as hell, but sounded like complete ass and distorted like crazy at lower tones (POS box...). I know, those amps are crap and it was only like 300watts rms or something. There's no way it was close to 1200 cause the power wire I had on it had a 40 amp fuse that blew the other day with my power acoustic 380 watt amp (the old school kind) for my 6x9s. Anyhow, are there any subs that aren't heavy that are decent? I just dont want my $500 cat-back dragging the ground any more. I know the standard for boxes is 3/4 inch MDF, is there any way I can get away with anything thinner to save weight? I can make a ported or sealed box, depending on how many and what size subs I get. Also, I need another amp. Hifonics has been suggested to me before on here...and I have read good things about power acoustik.

seriously, my car has a 3 inch drop and the muffler dragged when I would go over some speed bumps when the audiobahns were back there

Edit: here are some vids of my car's exhaust in case anyone wants to hear it. Its an RS*R GTII

depends on the car and the placement of the speakers in relation to the rear axle.

my gti's suspension was hard as a rock, but just sitting my toolbox in the back would make my tires rub.

The subs will sit right between the rear tires. Maybe I can just avoid speed bumps? Its not the muffler itself that drags, its the piping under the car....and its already got skunk2 springs. i dont have the stock ones any more because the backs sagged a lot when I first got the car, so they got trashed
