Light dimming

I have 2002 Ford Taurus with a diehard gold battery. Currently I'm running about 500w rms with the mrp-m500 and when cranked up I get a slight light flicker. Would doing the battery to chassis ground from the big 3 make this better and would it be worth it? Thanks

I would say it depends how you are grounding your amp... if you are grounding the amp to the chassis then it would help(how much is hard to say) if you are grounding to the batt then it would almost do nothing.

it would still help as the rest of the electrical is grounded through the chassis and i guarantee the car is using more power than that 500 watt amp for the most part..

Another question is why when I close 2 windows at once with the sub off all my lights dim significantly? Would doing the batt to ground help this?

If your audio is off and your lights dim due to using your windows, you probably have a failing alt. You can get a cheap alt for most of those Fords. You can get a rebuilt 3G alt that makes at least 160a fairly cheap.

I would do the whole big 3 but getting to my alternator is pain in the ***.
It's the same with my truck. And I sit up a lot higher than you do.

It does this because you using your electricity! The amp runs off of the same power that powers your windows. So the more things you do to use it (like windows, lights, system, a/c, etc.), the less you have.

My lights dim when I have my system off and roll down my windows. It's not a failing alt.

If your lights dim when only using headlights and windows, you for sure have SOMETHING wrong bro! That would mean that your headlights and windows are exceeding alternator output. That is NOT a good thing.

Damn Fords //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I don't think they do with my batcap. Maybe it's my upfront battery? Idk

Your windows and headlights run off the alternator, not the battery //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
