To the topic at hand - 8" subs - I have a little bit of experience...hehe

namely getting a set of 8s over 145 legal in a street 1-2 install (SUV) with a mere "1kw"...

I can personally attest to RF's he2 and hx2's being VERY badarse 8's with excellent sq provided you build your box correctly. Im sure that JL did their homework on the 8w7 as well. Also do not forget about kicker L7 8's...

One company to DEFINATELY look at in terms of 8s are Onyx Mobile.... I want to try the lsm 8 for sure!

the l7's are classified as 8's but have the same cone area as a 10...so you would be gaining the sound of a 10 from that.

hah i just read a review on SI totally bashing the he2 8s.....oh well, he probably had a bad experience/bad install or something..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Well I can't speak for any 8s other than the Boston Pro 8" I have. Although I havn't installed it yet, I did temporarily hook it up for 5 minutes with ONLY 80w going to it, and in a box that wasn't even properly sealed. I was impressed to say the least. I can tell once I get the sub installed in a properly sealed box, with at least 300w, this little thing will pound, and sound great too. This has a power handling rating of 50-750w. I've been very impressed with all of Boston's products thus far.

The sub retails for $220, but I bought one brand new off eBay for $135 and it was the 2 ohm version.

That's recommend amplifier power, so rms I assume //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif Everyone says these subs can take of ton of power, but after hearing it with only 80w I think 300w will suit me just fine.

Here's Boston's web site if you want to check out their subs:

I bought them new off eBay for $375. They aren't real popular on eBay, but if you keep your eyes open you may find a set or two every week. I kept my eyes open for about 1 month before I bought these using Buy It Now. I did miss a few really good deals however. The Bostons get snatched up quickly. I've seen new to like new sets go from as low as $275 to $375. Retail the cheapest I've seen is around $500.

Oh, the 2-way Boston Pros can be found fairly easily on eBay. There is a guy who sells new sets all the time. These usually sell for $300 new.

They are on the expensive end, but I'm very happy with mine and highly recommend. Oh yeah, these can handle up to 500w rms too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I'm only running 120w and they sound very good.

Ok, just an update on the 8W7. I talked to the salesguy at a local shop today and he quoted me $400 as the official retail price for it. That means we might just see it for as low as $200-250 online.
