It depends on the content and your eyes...
Life is very similar, especially if you are going to be going with a good quality Plasma or LCD. I have been told and have seen it from general experience on a new Plasma TV it's almost as hard to burn and image in it as it was on a standard CRT tv.
LCD is usually considered to be "brighter" which gives you a much more "stunning" picture however you pay for this with loss of black scale and depth. A plasma gives you a much more "real" picture. Also, I have found that my eyes get tired watching movement such as sports on an LCD while on a plasma it does not, because the plasma seems smother. I spent 4 hours in a TV shop with the Sony XBR3, and some other TVs, side by side to the Pioneer Elite Pro-940HD looking at SDTV, HDTV, SDMovies, and HDMovies. To my eyes the Elite looks better, and more real. At first the Sony looked better, but after watching them both for a bit of a time period me, my mother, my brother, and the sales guy agreed that the Elite looked better.
SO, shop carefully, and don't believe the Plasma hate stories. Except on the cheap Plasmas... haha.....
