Laptop + Water.....

So Sunday I awoke to find my laptop sitting on my desk in a puddle of water. As far as I know it was powered down when the water got spilt but it was plugged into the wall. So I let it dry out for a couple hours and tried to turn it on. It would light up and the fans would start then it would shut off.

Last night I tired turning it on and it actually booted up and let me log on like everything was fine. A couple minutes later it just powered down without doing the whole shutdown thing. So tonight I realized I needed a couple docs off of it so I powered it up and backed them up and a little bit after I finished it did the same thing.

So does anyone have any idea what is wrong with it? Should I just let it dry out for like another week or does it definitely need some form of repair? I'm guessing if something is shot it can't cost too much considering it boots up and works fine for a little while, so it can't be too severe....I hope lol.

How old is the laptop?

If it is still under warranty, take it in to be looked at/repaired.

If it is not under warranty, open it up, and let it air-dry for a couple days. Just like a cell phone, if you open it up and let it dry, chances are it will still work.

But, since it has been powered on, whatever damage has been done may not be reversible, other than repair.

I got it in January but I don't think the warranty would cover the repairs. That is the only reason I haven't opened it up by myself.

it won't they don't cover negligence.. aka water damage.. you might have ****ed yourself flipping it on.. take off the back cover and hit it with a hair dryer.. let it sit on a window sill opened up with the bottom up..

I don't even know where the water came from lol, but I understand that its not their fault and aka not their responsibility to repair it. I don't want to further **** myself by opening it up. I don't have a problem paying to have it fixed, I am just curious to know if anyone has a clue what the problem could be before I take it to someone.

Definetely stupid of you to turn it on without letting it dry first, no matter if you needed anything or not

I dropped 2 cell phones in water (lake/toilet), totally submerged for seconds, didnt turn them on for a few days, worked fine
