I just got an asus yesterday, I love this thing... its not really made for gaming, but everything else it does an awesome job at.

NOTE* I wouldnt usually give people best buy links, but I did alot of searching and I really couldn't find a better deal (when you factor its processor, weight, and battery life (6 hour batt life) . it's got a big hd to, but I'm getting a 120gig solid state and using the 640gig in an external.

ASUS are awesome computers. The new line of Gateways are very nice as well, go for something with an i5

i got my dual core from bestbuy for 350... 17" screen toshiba.... does the trick for me... i leave my desktop for all the hardcore stuff

my sister and step mom have Toshiba laptops. they were $400 new and they both love them. they dont game, but they do everything else fine.

I love my HP, has a the AMD processor. going on 3 yrs old. us it every day. I believe my processor fan is starting to go out, but it still works great. ill buy both HP and AMD again.

i got a Gateway out the door at BB for around 600 IIRC. Got it just for school work (freshy in college) and its been great for me. i dont however like the Cd burner on it tho. it doesnt burn correctly or something cause CDs skip alot if burned on it. Oh well.

I need a new or used laptop for school/work.. shopping on ebay.. budget is $900 max, but I'd rather spend more like 400-600..
I need a 17"+ screen and Id rather stick with a Tosheba/HP/Sony over a dell, gateway, or whatever.. not sure what the quality of Acer is like ?

So far I've only been looking at intel and I'm wondering if an i3/i5/i7 is really worth the extra money over a C2D...

Would anyone here go AMD ??

C2D is a great processor for the money but the i3 will outperform. I like hp and toshiba. a quick rec would be

I picked up an acer for $480 shipped off ebay. It had the LED screen (although its a 15.6" screen), dual core, 4 gigs DDR3 ram, dual layer burner, 120 gig hard drive, etc. I seen an HP with the 17" you were lookin for........ a dual core, 4 gigs DDR2 ram and a 120 gig drive for just under $500 shipped
