My sister in laws mom's computer got struck by lightning (lightning took out her dvd player, modem/router and laptop, she wants to know if it can be fixed. It's an HP G60-230US laptop, it won't turn on but if you plug it in (with battery in or out) you get a white light next to the charging port showing it's charging. It's plugged up now so im seeing if it will give it a trickle charge to give the battery enough juice to power on, but I highly doubt it will work. Do you guys have any advice/insight? Thanks in advance guys!!

Ok..Maybe its because of these painkillers...but..is it the ethernet port that went out? or the fact it got struck by lightning it wont turn on at all?...If you are getting a charge light but the unit will not turn on (especially without the battery in it) Then chances are the motherboard fried and will need to get fixed, I dont know if HP covers lightning but you can ask. usually when the board is fried on most hp's (if it turns on but shows nothing) the num lock light and caps lock light will flash repeatedly

Itll buff out bro

if your electronics were plugged into a surge protector power strip, like an APC brand one, they offer a up to $25000 coverage for any devices that were plugged in to it.

so i would start there. if you were using a no brand power strip, chances are your SOL.

you can also do a home owners insurance claim.. its another option, but that normally comes with whatever your insurance deductable is.

No it cannot, that why you plug every high end/ computer to a power surge that offer insurance or offers you something that will protect a product of value that you want to protect ....

But you should always back up the stuff in your hard drive that y'all want to save the most, that's the least every one can do...

I just replaced the DC plug on a G60 laptop

by far - the most difficult layout I have ever seen in a Laptop and I have worked on a few.

The laptop is toast but the data on the drive should be fine.

The mobo is done. If she purchased an extended warranty through the retailer from which she purchased the laptop, she may have power surge coverage. The manufacturer's warranty doesn't cover power surges. HP's gonna laugh at you with Indian accents...after they verify that it's plugged in.

Safe to say board is fried, try warranty and don't tell them it got hit by lightning or they'll quickly say DENIED!

Or try homeowners insurance on everything in house //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
