Not too hard for him to do the big 3, and maybe upgrade his starting batt, ot getting one to put in the back.
Even if he gets the d4's, running that amp at 1 ohm would be plenty to push those type r's

I agree with that too. Get the D4's. That amp at 1ohm will be plenty to push 2 Type R's. It will be way easier on the electrical at 1ohm than at .5. And it will be easier on the amp. Better all around for the setup your friend is looking at. Should be a huge improvement over his current gear also.
