Land Rover wiring question

Hey guys. Cool forum. Thanks in advance for the help.

I blew the speakers in my 1999 Land Rover Disco. The front door speakers to be exact.

So I bought a pair of 6.5" mb quart qsd comps. I am giving them 175 watss via Jl Audio amp.

I also bought an alpine head unit.

Now I need to know two things.

1) What do i need to make the new alpine head unit work? I saw a wiring harness as well as this http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=2676&cat=317&page=1. That makes it sound like the new amp actually has rca inputs.

2) Considering question 1, I would like to keep the rear speakers and subwoofer. Is this possible? Is that what the thing in the link does?

I am pretty opposed to getting subwoofers put in the car. I used to have jl subs in previous cars. Now that I am producing more albums, I feel that the subwoofer over does the bass.

I listen to and produce rock/indie rock/jazz. So in my case I am used to having very flat speakers. I listen to dynaudio studio monitors all day long. While I know the Qsd's are not flat, they are a very good quality musical speaker. I feel that the addition of even an 8" subwoofer may frustrate me.

Now, the subwoofer I have in there is perfect for me. It adds alot of attack to bass drum and bass guitar. For me, it adds just the right amount. So I would like to use the rest of the factory speakers and subwoofer.

Experienced car audio experts please help me.

Okay, so I talked to crutchfield.

They said their wiring harness will allow me to use the factory amp and speakers.

But they said that their dash kit would not work for landrover. I am not sure what to do.

Are both of the above statements correct?

yeah u need that harness. i installed an alpine in my uncles discovery. each speaer hass its own amp right on the speaker so thats why u need that and cant use the amp off of the hu. just plug it into the rca outputs and that then connects to the wiring harness. no i had to cut the antenna on the truck and solder on a antenna end and actually that truck has 2 antenna leads and i only did one so it is a lil fuzzy so u have to solder them both together inside the new plug. these are actually what i bought from that sight. http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=2293&cat=0&page=1 if u have any questions let me know. i got the hu from cructchfield and they didnt carry the wiring harness for it either. so i had to buy one. and no dash kit is required. jsut to let u know bout the cruchtfield thing

hey thunderbird thanks for the input.

Which wiring harness did you use?

1)http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=2676&cat=317&page=1

or

2)http://www.crutchfield.com/S-uR8ihpMwu6W/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=103000&I=120701758

The one from crutchfield is made for audi/vw, but they said that this is the one that will work.

It seems like the one from crutchfield is better.

Also i tried to size up the new head unit. It doesn't look like it is an exact fit. You just threw it in there and it worked? was it a 94-2001 land rover?

thanks for all you're help guys

I am going to install it now.

One last thing, I have been trying to figure out where to route the wires to my amp and to the batteryand speakers.

Anyone have any info on the best way to do it? Meaning: I know what to do,but can't figure out where to route it through. So anyone who has worked on land rovers please let me know. thanks
