L5 Burning Smell?

i just got a new l5 wed. put it in my 2 cube ported box tined to 32hz.

i have a kx400.1 amp

i let it break in at almost no settings turned up.

i have gradually in the last two days started to turn the gain and bass boost very lil maby to 1/4 the way up.

i am noticing a burning smell when i turn it up high.

this kinda frustrates me because this is the 5 one i have been threw, and all have done the same thing smelled funny then cone freezes up.

what could be the problem.

after this sub i am prolly gonna upgrade to 1 12' 9512 or l7 or anything circuit city has to offer.

I've never had a solo lock up on me before. I have noticed a burning smell when brand new with all the many different solo's i have owned.

If you're noticing the coil burning then thats a pretty good sign ever that you have to turn your gains down. Does your deck have a really high voltage subwoofer out? Its possible that even at 1/4 you might be making your amp clip and therefore burning out subs. See if you can get the gains set with a dmm or a scope.

my head unit is stock.

and i can turn it from +9 to -9

when it was in a sealed box i could turn it up all the way and it still wouldent blow, but i know that air is moving in and out of it.

what sub or setup would u guys get from circuit city.

i am thinking about the 9512 or 12 l7 with a 750.1

is there any other opinions from u guys

if you buy from cc, the select anit great and the prices arent that good. EBAY is the best place to buy audio equipment. i know they dont warrenty thier stuff but its at least a 1/3 cheaper and most warrenties are very limited anyways. i have bought a lot of audio equipment off of ebay and have yet had a bad experience.

well basically since i payed 250 for this sub, the guy said i pay the diffrence.

so both l7 12'' and 9512 are 400 meaning i pay 150 and get the leftover warrenty carried over.

or any system more then 250 in the store

make sure you set your subsonic filter correctly and also turn that dang bass boost off

you're clipping the signal with that dang bass boost even a 1/4 the way up if you have it at high volume, keep it off, you shouldn't even need it

and my amp says subsonic on or off, if i have a ported box do i put it on or off?

you want it on and should be able to fine tune your subsonic. bass boost all the way down ftw.

if you blew it with a KX4001, it's the setting or user, period..I have a ZX2500 on two L5 12's with no issues...if you've blown 5, have a real installer set the gains, and SSF
