Detroit is not that bad. In downtown I keep my guard up but its relatively safe to roam aimlessly out there. Now, if you venture off in the wrong direction, and if the sun has gone down, you might be in trouble.

I honestly have been more uncomfortable out in Flint, just because its in such bad shape and there's a lot of bad people out there.

I did find it a little uncomfortable though when I was over on the southwestern corner near the heart of detroit a few months back. I had to delivery some documents to a couple different firms in the area. Its just weird having people blatantly approach you begging for money and shit. there is 30,000 or so people here. How can that compare?

The chart shows Radcliff has more theft per 100,000 then Detroit and the national average. If you can compare a city of 900k to a city of 8 million, I can make this comparison

Downtown is safe. The crime rates downtown are well below national and state averages. The crime in the outlying areas is mostly drug related. If you don't get involved in drug trafficking then you will be fine. People don't randomly gun down people for no reason in Detroit.
