Knu Koncepts RCA turn on lead

sorry for any stupid questions, but im new to wiring in amps and subs. i ordered the knukoncepts 4 gauge amp kit, and i started installing my amp and subs today, until it started raining. i hooked up about half of the wiring, but when i was working on the rca's, i notices a small wire attached to them. i didnt know what this was, and i figured it was a ground. i came here and searched for what it might be, and came to the conclusion it was a remote turn on lead. i dont really know what that is, and im not too sure where it hooks up to, will it be a problem if i dont connect it? im assuming its there for a reason, so im going to look in my HU book to see if it says anything about it, but my amp info says nothing about it, and Knukoncepts doesnt send directions.

but again, does it hurt to NOT wire it in anywhere? if not then no biggie. i have a jvc kd -shx700 hu and a wcc orion 1600.2 amp (aka: orion 800.2, same thing).

thanks in advance.

The remot line is supposed to connect to the back of the head unit. This sends 12 volts to the amplifier to turn it on. So connect it at the back of the headunit and then on the amp.

ill check to see where it connects to the headunit tomorrow. but, correct me if im wrong, im sure you you know alot about wiring etc, but isnt the line from the amp to the battery what turns on the amp? why do i need the smaller, second line to the HU?

The battery power wire supplies current while the amp is playing. The remote lead is basically energizing a switch in the amp that tells it to turn on and off with your headunit. If your amp has a remote input, it is usually marked REM and right next to the power and ground inputs.

That wire isn't the remote turn on lead, it's to ground the amp and headunit together, to reduce the possibility of noise. That's why it's not a beefy guage.

I use it for my TurnOn lead,I dont see the need for extra grounding

as since I have no noise in my system- but its a free country

use the wire for what ever uses you can think up peeps

This is not rocketscence:eyebrow:

Nope, should work fine; Some shielded RCA have an additional lead for grounding the sheild; In this case (most likely, as it is with my Knu RCA) the third wire should work fine for a REM.

none of the 3 RCA lines from Knu include a drain wire, only the rca's included with the amp kits have the 3rd wire, and it's clearly stated in the descriptions of all of them "built in turn on lead".

Drain wires are only exposed at 1 end which is supposed to be grounded to the HU - and are pretty rare in cheap cables from what I've seen, not to mention useless.

mmhmm. it does seem to be the turn on lead. i found the hookup on the amp no problem. it was the one labeled 'remote turn on lead' in the manual, lol. but i cant figure out where the hell to attach it on the headunit. i called jvc, and they wont tell me anything. they are afraid im going to splice it in and they dont want to be responsible. i cant find out where it is, it says nothing in the manual either. argh! im finished aside from that, i turned the truck on, started up the headunit, put in a cd, and i have no power to the amp, and im hoping that is the reason why. thats the last step i have to finish everything.

yes, i think you're right, partly. i jsut found the wiring diagram. the blue is actually to an automatic antenna, but there is a blue with white stripe that is the remote lead for other equip.

now, should i jsut cut this and wire nut both ends, with the remote turn on lead wire together? i dont see any other way, but thats what im probably going to do, correct?
