Ive got this old Sony amplifier (hcd-s300) that wont turn on, and hasn't for 5 or so years. Its been sitting in the basement and i want to use it for something so im trying to figure out whats wrong with it. There's no apparent damage inside, but it wont do anything (no power or lights turn on). Is there an easy way to figure out whats going on?

Stupid me, thinking stereo receiver, not combo player. Oh well, it was late and I already had a few beers in me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

BTW, the chip amps are strapped to the stamped metal perforated heat sinks behind the fan assembly, err, DVD player.

To the OP, if absolutely NOTHING happens when you power it up then it may have an internal fuse that is blown. These are not always easy to find these days. They can be a surface mount deal that looks nothing like a conventional fuse. Heck, a fuse could even be buried in the windings of the transformer...
