kind of noobish amplifier issue

Im posting this issue for a friend of mine,he has a kac9102d that he is letting someone borrow and long story short the ground wire came loose from the terminal and he took it out the vehicle and hooked it up inside to do some testing and the issue is as soon as it gets power (without speakers hooked up) it shuts off,doesnt go into protect just entirely shuts off about 1 second after it gets power,with speakers hooked up it shuts of about 2 seconds after it gets power.I told him it sounds like power supply is screwed but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas,thanks alot!

Ok so,the amplifier MIGHT be going into protect,he just told me that it flashes a little bit before it goes out every time.so Im guess its flashing protect and then going off completely.

1- its a KW throw it away

2- i bet it cooked the output board or PS

Well upon inspection nothing smells or looks burned,fets seem good too.

that amp has lasted alot of abuse though lol about 4 years worth

Well upon inspection nothing smells or looks burned,fets seem good too.

doesn't mean that you don't have any bad components. what "seems" good about the fets? They look good? You tested them with a multimeter? Parts don't have to be burnt or broken to be bad.They can look perfectly fine and still be shorted.

did the ground wire possibly touch the positive when it came loose? I've repaired more than a few kenwoods that have failed after the positive terminal/power wire came into contact with ground somehow. Most of them that i fixed had a very small ground trace on the circuit board that would burnout when this happened.Its almost like kenwood put it in there as some sort of fuse. Follow the traces on the circuit board from the ground terminal and see what you find. pretty easy fix with a soldering iron and a piece of wire or desoldering braid
