For some reason, I don't think the guy that kidnapped him cared too much if the kid got away after he had left. That or he diden't try real hard to tie him up.

Did you read the article? The guy had a ransom note written out for the kid, so I'm sure he wouldn't have been pleased if the kid escaped.

All he did was put a couple layers of tape around his hands and put a sock in his mouth. Diden't tape the sock into his mouth? Diden't use handcuffs? Diden't tie him to anything? Just sounds fishy..
