kicker zx750.1 subsonic filter?

I have a kicker zx750.1 powering a 12" CVR. The amp has a subsonic filter switch on it which is currently off. Can someone explain what the subsonic filter does and whether i should turn it on or not? I know it has something to do with frequencies below 25hz but thats about it. And if I should turn it on, is there anything else I need to adjust afterward? Thanks

Ported box use it, sealed dont need it. It cuts off inaudible frequencies that could damage your sub trying to play lower than it needs to.
