Kicker ZX700.5 amp shutting off?

i heard jl amps will shut down if voltage gets too low, perhaps kickers do the same thing.

LOL man i wondered why my amps always smoked. jk. ok back to serious talk. if you are trying to check if its the amp or wires or speakers in this situation on hook those door seakers in the door the window is going down in (simple to do right at the amp) but from the sounds of it i think the speaker leads or wire touches metal when the window goes down

Well I am not an installer at all by any means.

At no point does the voltage (dash gauge or at amp) dip below 12v. Nor can I find with continuity checker that there is a shorted wire to any speaker. Even with the rear speaker leads disconnected I get the same situation happening.

I contacted Kicker this morning and he said two things. Check the ground for resistance and check the remote lead to see if the voltage is dipping there.

The insanity continues!

At lunch I grabbed a DMM and did some additional testing. Found that my voltage never goes below 14v at the amp with the vehicle running. I still can get the amp to go into protect without any speakers connected.

I called Kicker back (great guys by the way) and they said maybe its OVER VOLTAGE. Apparently the specs indicate operating voltage of 9-16 but may run into problems at 15.2 or so. This would be consistant when what I was seeing with the DMM, large draw, then the voltage "spikes" up to 15.1 or maybe a touch more. Kicker is checking to see if this is a known issue with other ZXs. I will keep everyone updated with the info.
