Kicker vs Phoenix Gold amps

I am planning on running an IDQv2d4 and pG rsd 6.5 comps. I am looking at a Kicker zx700.5 which is rated for 420 watts for the sub and bridging the front channels rated at 130x2. The PG is rated for 200x2 and 400 for the sub. Are either of these amps a little underrated? Which amp would you use and why? Both amps would be refurbs. I am trying to stay under $250. If you have any other suggestions that would fit the bill: 400ish x 1 to 2 ohm and 100 to 150ish x 2 to 4 ohm and

Thanks, Jim

Weather it was old or new pg, it wouldn't matter, they all sound the dam same. Ived owned, have, or heard all of them. - would imagine you are talking about the xenon, that would be my choice, but then again, I am not a fan of running a whole system with a 4 channel amp.

that 200.4 will work but I have it from reliable source that running any 4 chanel like that will eventually kill the amp unless it has a seperate powey supply for the sub channel....ie 1 power supply for each pair of channels....

so that means that 200.4 will sooner later bite it cause it wasnt designed to do that in that way...I might not be explaining it fully but that was basically how it was told....this from a guy who knows PG amps in and out....

now if you wanted to run 2 amps then I have a 200.2 for sale and you could bridge it and run that sub all day no problem....but thats cause its a 2 channel not 4 channel....

I am not sure if that Kicker will have an issue or not.....the above discussion was refering to 4 channel amps...all of them not just the PG .......................

I swear I trust the source without a doubt to know internal amp design and if he said it so then it is.....

if not for the fact that you want to run a SUB off the amp then I would say the Xenon will be a better amp....

I prefer the Kicker SX over the other Kickers

Go with the PG amp. They put out a little over rated power. I beleive mine is 859watts. They are a very stout amp. They don't make them anymore. Lots of options with this amp. You can even use the high and lowpass xovers together as a bandpass xover. The only downside I can think of is the size. Its about 2 feet long. But look on ampguts. Its not just an empty shell. It has 2 cooling fans. My favorite part of the amp is that it puts out full power at 1,2,3, or 4 ohms in stereo. and 2-8ohms bridged.

So I have been doing some math and the PG is a touch to big for the area it is going in. And besides it was sold. I think I will end up with the Kicker unless something else comes along.

I agree with you, a 5 channel is a must for an entire system.
