Installed a new Kicker MX700.5 amp & KM10 sub in my boat over the weekend.
Turned it on & found the balance & fader on the Sony HU didn't work right. Balancing left would cause the fronts to balance left, but no change to the rears. And fading to the rears caused the fronts to go quiet (correctly), but fading to the fronts did not make the rears quiet.
I was feeding all four of the HU's RCAs into the amp. And, HU fronts to the amp's AMP1, & HU rears to the amp's AMP2. I tried changing them to various combo's of RCA L-F, R-F, L-R & R-R, but nothing made it right.
Eventually, I pulled out two of the RCAs so that only the HU's front pair were feeding the amp's AMP1: That made the balance work exactly right ... of course I have no fader that way.
Fading is not really mandatory, but it would sure be nice to know what's wrong.
Any ideas?? Is it my wiring, or could the amp have problems?
