jl 1000/1 infrasonic filter help

the local shop here installed my setupof 2 jl 1000- 2 w713 the gain on the amps were all the way up, the jl setting for the amp infr. filter is should be on for ported boxes but its off .will that make any difference in sound. as for the amps the 2 1000/1 and the 450/4 are ran to a batcap 2000 each. my question on that is should the amps be ran on a single battery. is there anyonewho can help with setting the xover on the alpine cda-7998 subwoofer section.

The gains shouldn't need to be maxed out, turn them down asap!

Set the SSF to around 5-10 hz below port tuning.

The crossover frequency will depend on your front stage capabilities and your taste.

whoever set your system was trying to kill and amp, kill your subs, or both. I would call them and tell them your stuff was installed wrong. I've seen those JL amps go into protect from gains up to high, and believe me I know they dont come out of protect.

I've had JL Audio amps in the past. Typically you do NOT need to crank the gain much at all. Your input sensitivity control is going to be your key gauge to getting the best sound out of your subs without frying them. Use a DMM, set it to AC and monitor the speaker outs using both a 50Hz test tone and your favorite tunes. The max volatage numbers in the manual are going to be a guide only, and you really should test it by ear, with the DMM, playing your favorites tunes as loud as you would comfortably listen. The voltage will jump around quite a bit but you would be looking to see if you are consistently crossing the max voltage when the subs are really pressed.

As far as the other crossover settings and the like, you can use the manual as a guideline but it is really going to come down to your taste and how it sounds to you.
