kicker L7 subs

It's a combination of the box parameters, sub parameters, sub loading, power, etc. There's a lot of factors that involve how much excursion the sub will make. People typically bottom subs out by giving the sub too much power too far below the tuning of their box. Just be conservative and careful with the volume once you play notes that are a ways under the port tuning.
ok yea thats what i ment by tuning and power. so i think i understand it for the most part. thank for the help

i was just looking at the manuals for the L7 subs and i'm just wondering how come when a sub is in a ported box it loses how much power it can handle? like the 15" for example in a sealed box they say they can handle 1000 rms but a ported can handle 750 rms. or the 12" in sealed it handles 750 rms but in a ported it handles 600 rms. now i know they can really handle more then that anyways even in ported boxes but why would kicker put it that way?
i have a 12in L7 the 08 model and my box was 3.13cf tuned to about 38htz, and a ZX750.1 powering it. birth sheet was 929@2ohms and i didnt have any problems but i watched my gain settings on it.

i'm running two of the 06 models in 4 cu ft tuned around 36 and i'm running them with a vr2000d no problem. they very rarely get hot or i smell them and i push them pretty hard. i was just wondering i know they can really handle power

i had mine in a 3.0cf box at 34ish hz and ran a ZX1000.1 on it but had the gain at like.. 1/4-1/3 so i didnt really need that much power. its nice to have just in case but i couldve gotten away with a little bit weaker amp

recommended ported box for their 10's are 2.25 ported per, i think. the 15's are 6 cubes ported. they can easily handle their rms in those larger boxes. if you were to go with even bigger boxes than recommended, which are already pretty large, then you might have to start worrying a little about damaging them, and have to start to pay attention to power and gain settings more diligently. as long as you aren't doubling the power and cranking the gains, they're fine, especially in the smaller boxes.
