He's got about 3.5 cubes to work with in his trunk.

use all of the cubes and port to 32-34

A properly powered 12'' L7 with a nice ported box will surprise you...

It will be louder than 2 sealed that are underpowered

1 ported can get stupid loud and sound good doing it depending on how well the box is made. 3cu.ft. tuned to 33Hz will rock

a friend of mine has his 1606 running an .5 daily. no problems at all. why dont yo port both and run them at half ohm? i have mines 2 L7's in a 5.35 cu ft. box tuned to 34 hz. and showed my *** down in Florida this weekend! it very loud and can catch all low notes and move air like hell. Try it, you wont b disappointed. . .
