Kicker KQ5 preamp worth it?

I just bought an amp from a guy and he threw in a Kicker KQ5 preamp with the deal. Just wondering if this is worth installing? Is a new HU going to give me enough control to make this unit obsolete? Does anyone use preamps anymore?

I dont know who uses preamps anymore. Unless you have a really old head or one with really low output voltage, I dont see why you would use this. A couple years back, I would said yes, but these are just extra pieces in the chain with what todays decent head units can do now.

i had the 9 channel version, at the time my HU only had a 3 channel eq, then got my current HU has a 7 band eq. it was nice for a time, but i couldnt find a good enough ground and had a good bit of ground noise. had to get rid of it. one thing i did really enjoy was the deticated subwoofer control.
