"Mech-less" head units and 2v preamps.

It's been years since I've actually used a CD. All of my music is on my iPhone or iPod. I love the idea of a mech-less HU. After looking around on SonicElectronix, I'm loving the Alpine units, but what's the deal with 2v preamp outs? I'm not spending an extra $200 for the imprint unit. Can I get away with 2v outs?

I really want handsfree calling too but no bluetooth on the Alpine units under $600. If I spend that much I would just get a Nav/DVD and all the goodies. Clarion has a nice unit with BT and it's the same price as the Alpine, but still only 2v outs and no knobs (I pefer an actual volume knob).

The only mechless unit I could find with 5v outs, BT, and a knob was the Boss. WTH?

I'm leaning toward the Clarion http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_19858_Clarion+FZ709.html unless someone talks me out of it.
