Kicker cx600.1 guts vs planet audio big bang 2500.1 guts

can use use my 120a fuse in my fuse holder at the battery with this kicker amp until I put the bb in? I know my power wire supports 150a but will it hurt the kicker smp because its only 80A or will it be fine is the fuse only for the wire?

If the amp is only fused at 80 amps, you're fine. Fusing lower than the wire's rated load won't hurt anything.

Fusing more than the wire's capacity would defeat the purpose of a fuse, because it wouldn't protect the wire in the event of a short.

ok good I wasnt sure if the 120a fuse in my power wire would hurt the built in 80a amp fuse. So i apologize for the realllllllly stupid question but this wont cause any performance or noise issues right being larger? its strictly for the wire protection only right? I just want to use the 120A so im prepped for the lager amp thats going in.

The 120 amp fuse is to protect the battery and wire mainly. If the wire got pinched off before your amp or was grounded some other way, the fuse would hopefully pop to prevent all your wire from being burnt up, starting a fire, and possibly discharging or wrecking your battery.

Using a fuse higher than 80 amps, but lower than your wire's rated capacity will not hurt anything.

Most people say fuse for your wire. Some people say fuse for your load. Still other people say fuse for both your wire and your load, using the lowest rating.

In this case, your amp has built in fuses. Therefore, it is protected from over current. I don't think you need to fuse for the load, just the wire. If your amp wasn't fused, that would be a different story.

Don't do what dub7Sonoma did with his fused amp.

I have some Korean built Kicker amps and they are really well built and can handle long term high power. As for the wire it is better to have a heavier gauge wire then to thin to where it will damage your amp.

While we're on the subject, here's one of my favorite comparison pics:

Boss uses ancient Chinese secrets to cram more power than Sundown into an amp a third of the size.
