Kicker Amp Overheat

Hello Everyone!

I have a Kicker KX-250.2 and a 10" Kicker sub installed in my 2004 Mazda6. The amp/sub were professionally installed as an addition to my stock stereo system, just for a little low end kick.

The amp is a 400W rms 4ohm, and speaker is also 400w 4 ohm.

Here's my issue:

During my daily commute to the office (typically an hour and a half drive) my amp overheats and shuts itself off. The amp is installed on the back of my 60/40 fold-down rear seats.

I've taken it back to where it was installed, and they said that there was nothing they could so, as the amp was working perfectly otherwise. Thier resolution was to drive around with my rear seat folded down all the time. That's completely unacceptable.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to re-adjust the amp so it wont overheat? My gain adjustment isnt all the way up, and i typically dont push the amp very hard. I'm not a hip-hopper, most of what i listen to is rock/metal. Periodically there's some deep bass, but most of the time it's just drum beats pumping through.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
