Kicker 800.4 cutting out

My friend's running 2 Type R's on a Kicker 800.4 amp. It works fine, but cuts out on a couple songs.

The odd thing is, it handles the songs that are heavy on bass, but the ones it cuts out on aren't anything out of the ordinary. All he listens to is rock music on the system, so pounding rap basslines.

One in praticular that makes it cut out is the one with a bassline that just goes "bump, bump, bump, bump", just someone hitting a drum basspedal. It doesn't like that.. hit liks 4 bumps, cuts out for 2-3, hits, cuts out, etc.

The amp doesn't feel hot on the outside, and when it cuts out it's in protect mode. The setup has been working fine since like October without any issues until now.

I'm at a loss suggestions on stuff to check?

if it cuts out it may be starved for power.....???

How dose he have the subs wired?
