kicker 600.1 stable at 4 ohms?

so I searched already online, and have found it listed as just a 2ohm amp, and a both 2 and 4 ohm stable amp. I just picked up an L7 with the 2ohm voice coils, so I need it to be 4 ohms. I know it isn't stable at 1ohm.

I'm trying to decide whether to have it repaired, or just buy a different amp. I'm thinking that if the claimed 300rms@4ohm isn't enough for me, i'll just sell it and pick up a 1ohm stable amp.

last question. when wiring up the amp, I don't have to do anything special to change it from say 2 to 4 ohm, correct? Just hook up the speaker wires in the + and -, correct? Thanks

It will do anything over 2 ohms. The listed stability for an amp is the minimum impedance into which it should be run. Wire it to something higher than that and power will decrease but so will amp heating and power consumption. The amp will be perfectly content the whole time.

Worrying about running a higher load shoudn't ever be a concern. As soon as you start playing the speaker, the impedance increases. Also, impedance is frequency dependant, the nominal value is the lowest point and since the amp can handle anything over its rated impedance, it doesn't care about the higher values.

As others have already stated if the amp is stable below your intended resistance load it will be fine at the resistance load you intend to show it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I would suggest this will likely be the end result. You've not stated what size L7 you picked up but my assumption is that 300w just won't be enough to do it justice.

thanks guys, that's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. And yes, I do know i'll have to change the way my sub is wired so it's a 4ohm load instead of the 1 it is now.

And I agree that 300watts isn't gonna be enough, thanks for confirming that. It's a 12'' FYI, 750 RMS 1500 peak. I guess maybe i'll have the amp repaired, then sell it and pick up a different one.

thanks again
