i agree that the 991 rules all unless you wanna run active processing. and at that, I'd just run an audiocontrol dxs or dqxs instead of a 9887. Just my .02

Kenwood do not sound better Alpines IMO. I owned 2 of the Excelon decks. They were good, but still do not sound better than Alpine. Why don't you just get a cheap half din EQ. That will give you a lot of control, 7-8volt line driver, subwoofer control, 3-way crossover and more headroom. Try a Clarion EQS746 or the Soundstream MPQ-7XO.

It's all subjective... some people will love brand K and hate brand A, some people will love brand A and hate brand K, and some people will either love both or hate both brands A and K.

Anyone can talk up a product, but it's up to the person buying to educate themselves and go with what fits their needs the best in a given budget.

I used Alpine for 10+ years and started used Kenwood recently and I like them both. It's like picking apples and apples.

im using alpine 9887 now. FM radio reception is poor compare with my old Kenwood .

but i feel sound quality is better compare 9887 with old kenwood.
