Kenwood not playing video files....

I have a kenwood DMX709s stereo. According to the manual it should play mpeg1, 2 3, and 4 files but I cannot seem to get any of the formats to play. I have converted about everything with no results. I did use some different converting software and was able to get the audio from one video to play nut no video. I can get "audio" files to play just fine with several different usb sticks. Any suggestions???

I think in order to play video it needs an hdmi input. My jvc is supposedly able to play video yet dvd is the only format.
