Kenwood KDC-X99X - flash drive vs Ipod

I bought a KDC-X997 and am trying to decide if I need an Ipod or just a flash drive. Anyone have any experience with one vs the other? Is the Ipod a better interface? I know it worked much better with my Alpine head unit. I don't currently have an Ipod to test it out.

I use 16 gb Sansdisk mini flash drives on both of my Kenwoods. They are small, very short so they don't stick out of the unit at all. You can access them via the menus on the 997 fairly easy. I have an ipod, I just prefer using flash drives.

Yep, the Kenwoods aren't as IPod friendly as some of the other brand head units. Menus are hard to access, and if you have a very big library (I have over 100 gigs on my classic) the amount of time to access music gets longer and longer. Flash drives offer the quickest access times through a Kenwood in my experience.
