I have a kenwood kdc-mp822. well now it gives me a TOC error (table of contents erroc) when it tries to read my mp3 discs, also have an original cd that give me a mechanical error when it tries to read that cd. NOW i'm not any type of a audio person i would rather pay some "pro" to do thier job. anywho what are my options, buy a new player which i am leaning towards, will a dry cd cleaner from say bestbuy work, or last maybe have it taken out and cleaned. any help or suggestions would be great. thanks guys/gals

Most likely you'll end up buying a new player....Kenwoods are usually good decks...If you get a newer model Kenwood it will use your existing wiring harness so you won't have to rewire your radio....I've yet to see one of those CD cleaners work...I heard one repair guy say they scratch the laser lens and make them worse...Most likely something in the unit got jarred so now the laser is reading incorrectly...

My x-789 has a "forced read" setting accessable in standby. Dont know if your model has this or if it would help.

If you'll refer to the manual it clearly states that on Read setting #2 it will not decode compressed music files (ergo .mp3, .wma, .aac files) and on said setting you can only play bought music discs or burnt discs with regular .cda (CD Audio) files //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

The manual for the XXV-01D (what I run) is very long and more than a bit vague on multiple features.

How about an exact replacement for around $155/shipped including shipping insurance from a trusted source? (I've dealt with this guy in the past and in my personal experience he's a top-notch seller and his feedback inarguably backs me up on that)

Kenwood KDC-MP819 are some HU's that i like any chance you can get those
