i installed this cd player from his dads car (he bought + had installed and it worked fine) then we switched it to his new car (well, used car- new to him //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif ) so i got it all mounted, then i got the harness and started to crimp.

i get all the speakers wired, the amp and everything... and i come across a red wire and a yellow wire. on the harness the yellow is labeled as "BATTERY MEM" and the red is "12v BAT" or somthing similar. in the booklet the yellow is listed as "BATTERY WIRE (yellow)" and the red is "IGNITION WIRE (red)"

the only way i can get it to turn on is if i hook both the yellow AND red wires to the red wire from the harness. the problems is, every time the car is turned off, the cd player resets itself. it spits out a CD (if its in there) it clears all the settings, and takes a while to turn back on.

any thoughts?

//edit

i also used my handy little meter, and the red line tests 12ish v when the car is on, and the yellow one is .2ish volts all the time.. what if i hook all 4 wires together... like this

HARNESS====>

so it would get like 2.5v constant, and like .2v when offline... do you think this would overpower the deck? i know its not that muc more voltage, but i would imagine a HU is alot more sensative than a LED or somthing.

any ideas?

i dont know exactly about that HU but you have to have but both the yellow and the red attach to a 12V source the only difference is that the yellow needs to have 12V all the time and the red needs 12v when the ignition is turned on.

this is what i do and i dont know if people are going to nag me about it but i run the yellow wire straight to the battery. this way the Face plate wont dim when its turned up loud(some HU have this problem) on my HU the Yellow powers the amplifier and the memory while the red pretty much just tells it when the ignition is on.

so run a new wire from the battery(some people just run it into the fuse box) to the yellow wire and make sure if you get it from the fuse box that its always on.

hook the red to red... yellow to yellow... and find the blown fuse... if your yellow wire isn't reading 12 volts all the time then the fuse is blown... find the blown fuse and then it should work fine

well this is good news, because there are 2 10amp fuses blown in the engine box for the roof lights.... maybe the HU uses these as well! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

i feel sheepish =)

and if that dont work, ill just plop that yellow to the fuse box under the dash =) i got my trusty multimeter with me, and im sure i can find a spot to hook em into =D

thanks alot for the info. this should proove to solve our problem!

Lol, roof fuses... but why not. I had a rear windshield wiper fuse pop on a 93 escort when I was working on the ignition.... trouble is, that car has no rear windshield wiper...

If that doesn't work, check your solenoids. My .02
