Kenwood Excelon x991, what hard drive?

I am sticking with this unit even though the new ones have come out. I just find this to be a better unit for sound. Anywho...

I would like to make the move to all uncompressed music for my car. I have a good collection, particularly of classical music and would like to know if I can put perhaps a 250 or even 320gb hard drive into the USB port. If so, what brand would you recommend?

Additionally, I currently am running a 32gb flash drive that responds perfectly. It is extremely fast and responds almost, if not instantly. Will I notice a difference in response in going to a hard drive over a flash drive?

I am certainly not set on a hard drive and am willing to spend the money to get the big flash drive if it is a markedly better option. If not, what and where should I look for a hard drive?

FAT32 format upto 250g notebooks work with the pioneers, anything more than 250g they seem to struggle. hope that helps

I think it does help. I am going to buy a 250 drive and give it a shot. They are amazingy cheap now anyway. Kenwood has a disc that will format what you plug in, so I assume that is either FAT32, or a Kenwood format of some kind. Thanks

I tried a 120GB WD external 2.5" on my x591 and the USB port didn't have enough juice to spin it up.

It is formatted FAT32 because I have used it to back up my cousins PS3 before.

It read my 8GB flash drive fine.

Sounds like it is time to pony up for a bigger flash drive. It works with my 32gb perfectly. Thanks for the help guys.

i use a seagate 500GB with my 991 and it takes a while to read the whole drive but its not bad. by the time my car is warmed up its will into the song(105+ temp here)..

i partitioned my drive 100 and 400 for music and movies..

i love my deck its one of the best sounding decks' ever made..

they need to make the 995 with 4 ways xover for 4 way systems all with each its own 24bit dac.. similar to the x991 as it uses a dac for the front rear and woofer.. the just need tweeter midrange midbass and subwoofer outputs with BP xovers and like a 4 to 5 band eq per output..drools
