What do you guys think of this model compaired to the Alpine CDA-9851? Because today i dropped by my local car audio shop and talked to a guy about decks and he recomended this one to me for the price. It also has 3 4v pre-outs compared to the 3 2v pre-outs of the alpine one, he said that would give me about a 30% increase in power from the Phoenix gold M25 amp. I also im leaning towards this because if i buy from there than all my stuff is warrantied unlike that of ebay. He also told me that alpine has been starting to turn into another generic marketing company like sony, JVC, panasonic... and not a specialty company anymore like eclispe and such. He also said there subs are more geared up towards the people in japan and nations over there who really dont go bumping to rap or anything which is why the american sub manufacuters would be better, like rockford fosgate, jl audio and brands like that. So what do you guys think about all this?

I think if they're both comparably priced that the eXcelon is a better buy. 4v preamp outs as compared to 2v outs on the Alpine, 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC on the eXcelon, etc etc.

mmmK.

Never a bad thing.

Oh yeah?!

I think your brother is running off at the mouth in an attempt to sound like the smartest guy in the room. Has he ever been to Japan (and/or any of those 'other' nations) to be able to make a generalized statement about what kind of music their citizenry listens to as a whole?
Have a wander around the forum and read through a few of the threads with those on both sides of the infamous Alpine Type R Subwoofer Debate chiming in. Not that I have a position on one side or the other about it (I don't run Alpine anything) but it's obvious that the most eager proponents of said sub believe in it completely and without fail. Go ask one of them if Alpine is only made for those who DON'T want to bump hard/loud.
