the other day while i was trying to figure out why my amp wasnt working, I unscrewed the top piece to unveil Variable Octave Low-Pass Crossover and

Octave Subsonic Filter under it ( i think, I had to look it up to see what it was since the amp isnt in front of me). Can someone explain to me what that is? or point me in the direction to find out.
