Keeping speakers in top condition

What is everything i should know about keeping my speakers in top condition, and to keep them lasting as long as possible.

One of my friends already told me not to turn up the subwoofers when the trunk is open, or else they might stretch too far or something. is this true?

Also, i really like low bass notes. One of my friends has one JL 12'' w7 in a ported box that takes up his whole trunk. To me, it doesnt sound that good. It doesn't even touch the low notes that mine do. Is it just the way his box is or something like that?

And what JL Audio product would hit lower than 2 JL w3v3's?

adjust gain settings right. have your sub in the correct box. try not to jab foreign objects into the sub. don't play them under water. but the biggest of all................under no circumstances, ever should you play your vanilla ice records through the subs.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

First, your friends a bit of an idiot for telling you not to play your subs when the trunk is open. Second, set your amps gain properly, if you use a ported box use a subsonic filter, don't put over rated power to subs unless they are underrated and can take the extra power. Don't stab your subs with a knife and lsat but not least, don't let your friends borrow your car unless they're responsible. Most friends get into cars with systems and just blast it, a lot of times blowing subs

Keep canoes away from them. That's how I lost my W0's.

To keep your subs in top condition, just don't abuse them. Don't feed them over their rated power unless you are certain they will take it. Put them in a correctly sized and tuned enclosure. Keep them from the elements, especially moisture. If you smell coil, turn it down. It's all common sense, really. If you treat your speakers well, they will play like new for years.

As far as getting more low end, you'd need to move more air. I'd suggest checking out some well-known low-end monsters, like the RE XXX for example... I had one of those and the low notes were just sick.

Use armor-all on your subs to keep them pristine looking. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

A JL 15 lol
so would 1 JL 15'' hit lower than two 12''? or would i have to get two 15'' for it to really hit lower? and if it does hit lower, how much lower we talking about?

also, is ther any problems with the 15'' keeping up? (like on songs with faster bass, would the 15'' miss a note every now and then? or is it pretty accurate?)

and how many watts would this JL 15'' need to run?

And also, how much money would this new subwoofer cost? i bought all my stuff at sound advice so i can upgrade anything i want for free, which means i basically just pay the difference of the new stuff and what i already have.

I was told not to use armor all on subs cause it contains alcohol which can eventually cause cracking. I heard using tire shine is better cause they dont normally contain alcohol.

is this true?
