Keeping my sealed enclosures or building new boxes?

I have learned my boxes for my mtx 5500 thunder 12's are too small (I will post the dimensions in the morning). They hit hard but I think I'm down by maybe half a cubic foot. Is having 12's in a small sealed enclosure bad? Like does it put a lot of stress on the sub? Would the sub be louder in a bigger box?

OK my measurements are 20x8x15 and my air space is roughly 1cubic foot (0.93 I think is more accurate). Should I rebuild or is it good enough?

It'll hit lower and deeper in a bigger one and lose a little of the upper end bass, output difference would be barely noticeable. You can always put in polyfill if you want You actually lose some power handling with a bigger box.

If you really want them to get a lot louder, best bet would be to build a proper ported box.

Any of the 3.5 to 4 cubic feet designs tuned from 32 to 35 hz should get you a good amount of output.
