I wang on an 8 in a van
i searched and it says that the illumination should be connected to the negative dimmer.

From the hu i have the orange w/ white stripe wire labeled illumination

coming from my car i have

solid orange labeled illumination

orange w/black labeled neg dimmer

orange w/white labeled pos dimmer

i hooked the illum from hu to illum from car and neg dimmer from car and i still blew the fuse. Any suggestions im running out of 5 amp fuses

If you're saying that you hooked your head unit's orange/white to BOTH the orange and orange/black from the vehicle at the same time, then disconnect the orange/black and use only the orange.

The negative dimmer wire becomes a ground wire when the lights are on. Connecting your positive illumination wire to it will always blow the fuse.

i hooked them up separtly and it blew the fuse both ways. Would not hooking it up work. On my old hu it wasnt hooked up and the dash worked

This is in that E350 van?

Truly with only the orange from the HU hooked to the orange from the van's harness it should work properly.

If not - leaving it disconnected won't affect the overall operation of the HU it will just keep it from slightly dimming the display intensity when you turn on your lights.
