Jvc Kd-r900

Got my KD-R900 unit a couple days ago in the mail! Am having it installed tomorrow along with a Pioneer GM-X362 200watt amp, Focal Access 690 CA1 Speakers, 50watt self amplified Bazooka Tube to go along with my already installed front 6.5" Focal 165 CA1 speakers.

Sound quality SHOULD be quite decent! The Amp I got from a friend, its used but he gave it to me free. Should sound better than the internal amp in the deck. If anything I can always replace.

I'll post a review video of the deck as well. Should give people a general idea od how it works.

Thanks again mporettim!

Whats wrong with Focal speakers? They sound great to me, a little less bassy than most others I've heard but much clearer in the midrane and high tones (which is how I listen to my music anyway).

The Bazooka tube I got for 50 bucks, can't say I got a bad deal. I'm happy with it.

As for the AMP, I'm fairly sure I'm gonna switch it with a proper one, but for now, this sounds great, much better than using stock or the KD-R900's internal amp.

my comment was against the bazooka....focals are good...and it was a funny match when I read your using them with a bazooka.....if you like it that is all that counts....

Well the tube only cost me 50 bucks flat. I don't really look for a whole lot of bass, i dont like it overpowering, the speakers on their own deliver enough bass when the lows are cranked up.

I do want a better amp though.

Well, late reply. But the Pioneer amp I had was bad. I got rid of it just yesterday. It was a 2 channel 200 watt (40wx2 @ 4ohms powering all four of my speakers). So yeah, not a whole lot of power. And the sound was aweful at around 500hz-2khz, wasnt coming out as it should.

Got an Alpine MRP-F300 and instantly noticed a huge improvement, does a MUCH better job at the low end, bass feels real tight and the 500hz-2khz issue was solved.

As for the head unit, here's my take;

I've tested a lot of head units, this was the first thing I was looking at for a long time before I even bought my car. Before the JVC KD-R900 I had an alpine CDA-117. Great sound quality, absolutely terrible interface, navigation and speed. Connected to an ipod it scrolled through artists and songs extremely slow. Skipping to the next song caused a delay sometimes of up to 2 seconds. USB sticks with music were 'banked' (put into slots) and then sorted somewhat by alphabet. This process took ages to do so, and then a little less when connecting it again. When new music was added to a device, the whole banking/slot issue completely botched the organization, causing a near complete freeze of the head unit. When more than 1,000 sounds were on a device (like USB key) they were then put into a second bank/slot of another 1,000. Basically, the unit uses 20 slots each with 1,000 songs available. When new music after the 1,000 tracks point was added, it was NOT clear which slot had which artists or songs, things got COMPLETELY mixed. At this point, the process for loading new tracks was so incredibly slow, it was almost like having a hard on before *** but the girl telling you shes on the rag, instantly killing any kind of excitement.

The problem with every other unit was worse if not as bad; files on a usb drive or external were displayed not in alphabetical or numerical order, but the order of their creation DATE!

The JVC unit is the ONLY single DIN unit capable of displaying all files and folders in alphabetical/numerical order, its gap between tracks is VERY short, skipping to the next track is almost instant, scrolling through lists of songs or folders is VERY fast.

Sound quality out of the JVC paired with the Alpine F300 amp is very very good (albeit am using Focals, so they do sound a little bright). However, I may have to say the Alpine HU might have been slightly better, but I'd sacrifice a little worse sound for my hair as the alpine was a nightmare to use. Eventually the usb port failed and wouldnt detect/connect to any device.

Those are my 2 cents for now. Am loving the Alpine amp.

I got a Q for any owners of this (or similar JVC) headunit...

I have a KD-A815 (virtually the same as the KD-r900)

Mine suffers from the most basic, but yet annoying DEFECTS ever. It's a really stupid problem to be having.

heres the deal... Virtaully all mobile electronics in the world with LCD screens have the LCD's polarized at either 45 degree's or 90 degrees (NOT 0 degrees). What this means is.... when wearing my polarized sunglasses in my car the screen in 100% BLACK, unless I turn my head sideways like a retard.

Am I the ONLY one?

As you can see (or can't see) the screen in not at all visible through my sunglasses without tilting my head.

Sunglasses held at 90 degrees AKA head cocked like a retard

Sunglasses held at zero degrees - normal

I picked up a KD r-900 in december for the 5v and USB

Sounds awesome, when I get a call pauses music for me and I mounted mic under stereo

Friends say it's a little hard to hear me when I use the mic but honestly I'm not really worried about it, I got this stereo to listen to music not talk to friends on my phone

I do notice the more music you load up on your flash drive the longer it takes to read when you first turn it on, again not a major difference. Got a 16gb flash drive plugged up right now with about half of it full

Honestly for the price I love this headunit

so do i.i dont really like the sound of JVC , or the design(i dont have a chrome dash in my car)

i do know that they are pretty reliable units and rarely see people come back with issues related to a stereo.

but it still doesnt sound natural to me.

and also

this unit doesnt have a "built in" bluetooth or technically neither it has dual USB

because it comes with a bluetooth dongle that plugs into one of the usb ports //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so you can have one or the other.

you plug it in the back you only have one usb port

you plug it in the front you still got one usb port but you cant use the front one enymore.
I've owned JVC also and didn't like the sound. I've only been completely satisfied with Alpine (with 24bit Burr-Brown Dac's) and Eclipse. The Rockford Fosgate head units were on the same level, but they stopped making those. My Kenwood Excelon had good SQ, and I've ran almost every brand you can think of. At the time I don't think Jvc and Kenwood were the same company when I had my Excelon.
