Just wanted to make everyone aware!

Id really like to use aero's, but when i can build a slot-ported box for approx $30, or fork out an extra $40-$80 on round ports (dependong on the surface area I want), I think I'll be sticking to slot ports. Seriously, at $38 a pop, how are you guys justifying putting like 4 of these in one box to make any substantial port area?

The box Im gonna build for my xxx's would require $160 worth of aero's. lawl Ouch.

Yeah, but according to some technical research over on SSA, aero's allow you to use something like 56% less port area while achieving the same, if not higher, output levels. Of course this results in having to use less of these ports. I'm using (2) of these on a box for (2) MOFO 12's and it is absolutely ridiculous. I think this is one of those things that the saying "different strokes, for different folks" applies. I for one don't mind spending the money for them, just a matter of personal preference. In my application I gained 1.6 Db by using aeroports. Snoopdan chimed in and said that my data was invalid because there were so many different ported enclosure alignments, but my termlab didn't lie. I asked him to chime in with an explanation as to exactly what he was referring to, but he never responded. Hopefully he'll chime in this time and tell me why my statement about gaining 1.6 Db from these ports is skewed.

Yes, going from square to round ports allows you to run less port area and still acheive no (or less) port noise. The example I gave on my xxx boxes, four 6" aero's is with less port area than I'll do for a slot. It would still cost me almost $150. I find that impossible to justify, unless like someone else mentioned, you absolutely have to have the added space or the install wont work. otherwise, aero's are just too darn expensive to be worth it imo.
I have no idea why you gained what you did. The actual shape of the port shouldn't really affect output ability, assuming the old slot port was designed correctly as well. But who knows, any number of other factors could account for the difference. Either way, glad you were happy with the results.

Cheers.

I must say that even though our view points may differ on this subject, I always look forward to reading what you have to say. You're one of the guys I hope responds to a thread when I crank one up. I can always count on some more education when you post. Thanks man. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif You're definitely on another level than most of the folks here.

BTW, didn't you have that yellowish colored blazer in your avatar at one time?? That thing always looked slick to me.

Wow thanks man, the respect is mutual. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Yeah I still have the blazer. Its in storage at this point, have other projects Ive moved in front of it. I have too many projects. lol

I appreciate the comments.

edit: oh and... do we disagree here? lol I didn't think we were actually. You are right about the round aero's needing less port area, and if you say you increased your output by that much, Im confident you did. Cheers man.

Ah man, that blazer is indeed quite a sweet ride. Do you ever drive it at all??What other projects are you working on? Have you posted them on here for comment?

I guess when I said that we disagreed, I really mean that it's a tomato/tomoto sort of thing. You don't see the justification and I enjoy seeing the look on someone's face when they see the ridiculous cannon's firing at them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif. LOL!! We're definitely cool though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif. Like I said, there's only a handful of folks on this forum that I take serious stock in what they say and you're certainly one of them.

Thanks again man. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My other projects. 1966 chevelle ss, 1972 K-5 blazer (convertible) with 40's and a bigblock conversion, 1966 impala, 95 hummer h1 (money pit), and the stereo Im trying to get installed in my daily truck. That doesn't include the regular around-the-house projects, work, etc. lol

I actually really like aero's. Id use them if they were cheaper, or if I was building a competition box that I was trying to squeak every tenth out of or something. External aero's for SPL setups seems to be the way to go these days. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Take it easy.

Holy cow! Dasalot of projects!! LOL! I've always wanted to put a gangster's touch on a 63-64 impala. Would be a really sweet ride if you ask me. You must work really hard to afford all of those projects in addition to having household projects. Geez that is really alot.

I agree about the price of aero's. I just don't understand the disparate price difference between a 4 incher and a 6 incher. You can get the 4 for like $13 and then $40 for a 6 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif. I mean the difference between a 3 and a 4 is like 2-3 bucks. The only thing I can remember the folks at parts express telling me a long time ago was that the 6's cost a great deal more to manufacture than the 4's. Seems odd, but I've heard of similar instances with other kinds of products.
